Grand Detour Islands Retreat, Inc. is in the process of opening a campground in Milton Florida in the fall of 2009, or the spring of 2010. The campground site is on 8 acres of timber and live oaks 3/4 of a mile north of Interstate 10 on Ward Basin Road which formerly was a public fish for fee catfish farm, restaurant, boat rental, and daily visitor park. The campground marina will have approximately 75 improved sites with 800 feet of canal frontage allowing campers to boat in the blackwater River, Escambia Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico. Most sites will be seasonal Kropf Park Model sites, and at least 50 sites will be reserved for campers who own a Kropf Park Model in Illinois, and one in Florida. Currently regulatory compliance will be in process during 2009-2010, and sales and site specific information will be available summer 2010
The campground is waiting for the city of Milton to run the sewer down ward basin road late 2009. PROPOSED CAMPGROUND FEATURES: 1. MARINA- ELEVATED BOAT STORAGE SYSTEM 2. RESTAURANT/ OFFICE/ACTIVITY CENTER 3. JET SKI SALES AND RENTAL/FISHING BOAT RENTALS
FUTURE RESTAURANT/ACTIVITY CENTER The old Blue Gill restaurant was destroyed in Hurricane Ivan, and a new restaurant/marina complex will be replacing the old site in the summer of 2010
